Umbellularia Californica is a very valuable hardwood tree that grows readily in California and Oregon. The Wood of Umbellularia Californica has a variety of uses such as: furniture, cabinets, interior trim, Gunstocks, And woodenware ( i.e. Spoons, knife handles). The burls are used for carvings and other novelty items. The leaves, seeds and roots are all eaten by wildlife. Native Americans used the bark from the roots to make tea, and crushed the leaves to make medicine for headaches and rheumitism, as well as making a insect repellent. Today many people use the leaves for seasoning for cooking.
